Berry Burgundy Dreams

I’d been toying with the idea of getting a second cover for our couch in the living room; not because I was tired of the pink corduroy, but just to have another option to have on the couch so I can rotate and clean the covers in between usage. I’d ordered a few more samples of fabrics from Bemz, and was leaning towards a pistachio bouclé, thinking a tonal green on green pistachio combination would be so fun through the summertime.

Once I priced it all up for our sofa configuration (we have two pieces from IKEA’s Soderhamn collection) I just couldn’t justify the price. I had a quick look in the outlet section on the Bemz website and stumbled across a clearance item — burgundy velvet, ready-made in our exact couch configuration.

I did a couple of Photoshop mock-ups to see how it would look; I didn’t want it to feel like the Christmas lounge room (but also, wouldn’t it be amazing at Christmas time?!) so wanted to make sure that there would be enough berry tones in the fabric to pull it away from being too red-and-green when in situ. Once I compared the prices and realised the burgundy option would be less than half of the green bouclé, I really didn’t need any more convincing!

The new cover has just arrived and it feels dramatic and luxe in all the right ways. The burgundy definitely has a cerise tone to it which is really nice against the green and with the powder-pink cushions and accents in the room. It’s so fun to have another option on the sofa (and I’ll bring the pink back out in the spring), now we’re thinking we’ll dress our winter couch in the velvet and our summer version in the corduroy! Just like having a seasonal wardrobe!
