Sveriges Nationaldag

June 6 is Sweden’s National Day, one of the only days where you might see Swedish flags waving, and marking the day when Gustav Vasa was elected as king in 1523. It’s normally a public holiday but this year fell on a Sunday, so it felt like a normal weekend otherwise (National Day is also one of the least celebrated holidays, so it’s a bit of a nothing day!). A strawberry shortcake is a common dessert at this time of year, with the start of summer bringing lots of fresh fruits to the grocers, so we marked the occasion with a strawberry spongecake on the balcony.
