Monet’s House and Gardens, Giverny

A trip to Paris with just enough wiggle room in the itinerary for a jaunt to Giverny… yes please! We found ourselves with a free day in France, so took the opportunity to tick off a bucket list destination; a trip to see the house and gardens of Claude Monet. We hired a car from Charles de Gaulle airport and drove just over an hour to Giverny. Past yellow fields of flowering canola crops, and beautiful buildings and country cottages, before arriving at the estate.

Countless ‘pinch me’ moments as we walked through the gardens, and later seeing the studio spaces where Monet painted such iconic pieces, it was truly the dreamiest visit! The famous pink house is set at the back of the gardens — perfect for looking out over the flower beds and trees from the rooms on the top floor. The butter yellow dining room, the brilliant blues of the kitchen, the red-tiled flooring… and of course, the bright verdant green shutters and trim on the perfect pink maison! Saving up a lot of inspiration for my (one-day) summer house in Sweden!

A fun video from our visit is on my Instagram, and some more photos are below. If you’re planning a trip for yourself I highly recommend going for the earliest time slot available — we went at 930am on the Saturday, and it was manageable, but still tricky if you’re hoping for photos without people in the background, and walking through the small spaces in the house felt quite cramped and rushed at times!
