Paper Daisies in Sydney

After being on my list of ‘Sydney Spring things to see’ for years, I finally made the trek to visit the Paper Daisy display at the Australian Botanic Gardens. Like most Sydney-siders, I’ve got a bad habit of staying in my neighbourhood on the weekends, rarely venturing further afield than the inner west. The thought of driving 45 minutes away felt like a feat that needed to be carefully planned and scheduled - but I’m so glad I finally did. Look at the glorious display!

The paper daisies spring up at Mt Annan once a year, for a short couple of months; usually from early September through to the end of October. Native to Western Australia, it’s rare to see paper daisies this side of Australia, so it makes the beautiful fields all the more special. Every year, millions of seeds are planted to make the specialty garden beds roughly the same area as 1 (and a half) Olympic swimming pools. There are concrete paths paved through the display so you can get up close and personal with the different colours and arrangements from both sides - it’s also the best way to get a nice picture with some clever cropping.

On only at the Australian Botanic Garden, Mt Annan, open daily 8am til 5pm (free entry)
