Rainbow Spotting: Hong Kong Chung Wui Mansion
All buildings should be colour blocked if this is how great they look; Hong Kong really knows what’s what when it comes to painting their buildings in various shades. Nestled in the ‘Old Hong Kong’ district of Wan Chai, the Chung Wui mansion sits right in the middle of an intersection, similar to New York’s Flat Iron Building, but with a lot more pastel flair — and instead of yellow cabs zooming by, it’s bright blue buses and cherry red taxis. The Chung Wui mansion was built in the mid-60s, but from research, doesn’t look like it was painted it’s candy colours until sometime in the late 1970s. If you’re wanting to visit yourself, take the Island Line train to Wan Chai station, from there it’s just a few blocks to walk, and you really can’t miss it.
