Coming September 2021; Seasons in the City
For most of 2020, through lockdowns and quarantines, and postponed plans to move overseas, I watched the seasons around me change. I focussed on my plants at home, coaxing my roses into bloom and watching the leaves on the trees shift from green to orange before dropping completely. The pink buds of the cherry blossoms (just one single tree on my street) heralded the beginning of spring and my neighbourhood bloomed just before we packed up our life in Sydney to move to Sweden. I spent a week in my hometown in the Hunter Valley right before we flew overseas, and it was full of vivid jacarandas splashing purple against the blue sky and green grass of ‘home’. Arriving in Sweden to beautiful parks littered with amber leaves, before quickly changing to frosty grass and a few days of snow, it was quite the change from Australia!
All of these seasonal changes felt like timely markers as I worked on my biggest project to date; a brand new non-fiction book arriving this September, Seasons in the City. Exploring 24 different cities around the globe, and what the seasons look like at varying times of the year; from springtime in bloom in Paris, a sticky summer in Sydney, autumn with rainbows in Reykjavik, to a snowy winter season in New York.
