Megan McKean for Melanoma Institute Australia

Last year I had the chance to work with the Melanoma Institute Australia, creating some fundraising products for their annual events ‘Melanoma March’, to continue to raise much needed funds for research and support. As a very sun-safe Aussie (read; pale-as-a-ghost) it was really nice to be able to contribute my work to such an important cause. I took inspiration from all the summery, outdoor activities that we often get up to in the warmer months and the icons we often see - like picnics in the park, fresh fruit and marching ants, sneaky seagulls and ice blocks - interspersed with lots of the ways we should be practicing sun-safety, like wearing sunscreen and sunglasses, and staying in the shade of an umbrella or a hat.

The Melanoma March went virtual for 2020, amidst the coronavirus pandemic that meant large gatherings were unsafe. The shop is still up and running, and every purchase supports the Melanoma Institute and the great work they’re doing! My illustration is available on a fun cotton bandana (great size for a headscarf or accessories for your pet!) and a reversible bucket hat. You can see more work on my folio site at MeganMcKean.com.
