Before and After: The Bedroom
I thought the bedroom was finished around the middle of the year — we’d painted the walls, had decided on a colour scheme and chosen furnishings and textiles, and was 90% done… but it was the last 10% I just couldn’t resolve. The flooring in the bedroom was a click-laminate tile system floor, and had a distinctly different feeling to the rest of the apartment which is all the original parquet oak flooring. I’d tried some different carpets in the bedroom, thinking that if I covered up as much of the floor as possible I wouldn’t be as bothered by it… but two Turkish rugs later and it still just wasn’t feeling quite right.
I started researching carpet options, thinking that if we covered the floor entirely then that would hide the laminate floor, as well as bringing a cosy feeling into the bedroom. I found a very plush, cherry red carpet online and ordered a few tiles to sample in the room. It was very bold, and I was wavering on the edge of “is it too much?” but after looking at it for a couple of weeks I just decided to place the order. Another weekend DIY project, and before we knew it, we had a carpeted bedroom floor!
The red feels so luxe in the bedroom, and after a bit of a bedroom furniture reshuffle, we now have a small sitting area at the base of the bed, and the bed itself is nestled into the L shape of the bedroom. It means we can wake up to views of the sky out of the windows, and it gives a little more privacy to the bedroom as the view from the hallway. All of the changes are quite bold choices, but it feels so nice in the bedroom now, and much more of a glamorous feeling than previously.
Cherry red, sky blue, forest green, dusky pink and burgundy; all bright choices but feeling so nice all combined!
