Before & After: The Living Room
The first room we painted, but one of the longest to be ‘finished’… the living room! We undoubtedly spend most of our time in this room, and it feels every bit ‘the good room’ of the whole apartment. The previous owners of the apartment used this room as a sitting room, with two couches facing into each other — but we are using it more like a classic living room, and the bay window section as an occasional work space.
We painted this room a creamy pistachio green, it’s the most delicious shade that changes so much throughout the day. I wanted a colour that wouldn’t be too overwhelming and not too dark, especially with so much of Swedens seasons being on the greyer side of things! I’ve tried to bring in lighter tones and reflective textures where possible, to keep things from being too heavy — an ivory wool rug for the floor with a fun bobble texture, a shiny brass side table, a pink-hued mirror on the wall, and of course, my ultimate FB Marketplace find of my pink and grey marble coffee table.
We resisted for most of summer, but eventually caved to installing some curtains in the bay window - when the sun is out in the afternoon, it beams in through the window heats the room up quite a lot. We put in a ceiling-mounted curtain track behind the window and hung curtains that are the same shade as the wall. I’d not been too eager to add anything to the window, but now that they’re there, I like them a lot — and think they’re going to look extra glam come December, hanging beside a giant Christmas tree. Some green plants (that with time, will keep getting taller!) and some extra lamp lighting ready for winter evenings, and I’m finally calling this room finished!
