Tulips in Malmo

One of the things I’ve been enjoying the most about living in a new city (and new country and new hemisphere!) has been watching the seasons change so drastically, especially coming from Sydney, where the changes between the seasons are fairly mild. Arriving in Sweden in November last year for the tail end of autumn saw the parks full of orange and amber leaves, before they quickly dropped and turned to bare trees. The magic of the Christmas season, and most importantly, the novelty of snow, made for a cosy winter. The start of March brought little buds starting to peek their heads out, and now we’re in May and we’re finally in full spring mode.

While we’re still waiting for the trees outside our window to get their leaves, the florals around Malmö are in full swing. Flower boxes lining the canals and giant planters in the public squares full of brightly coloured blooms. We took a walk on the weekend to Slottsträdgården (The Castle Garden) and I was delighted to find an amazing display of tulips, in every colour of the rainbow. The Slottsträdgården Tulpanfestival is created in partnership with the city of Copenhagen (hopefully next year we can see tulip displays in both cities). It’s such a nice area to be able to walk inside and get up close and personal with the tulips in all the different colours and shapes.
