Ven Island

My Swedish summer bucket list is a long one, and will probably take me many years to work my way through — but I’m so pleased to have ticked one of them off my list, with a visit to the beautiful island of Ven! Located between Sweden and Denmark, Ven is a tiny island, often referred to as the ‘pearl of the Öresund’, and is just a short ferry ride from Skåne.

We drove to Landskrona from Malmo early Saturday morning and hopped on the 8 am ferry bound for Ven. We stopped in at Hven Durum bakery, where they mill their own flour and create the most delicious treats; we tried the rosemary focaccia and a kanelbulle, and could have easily indulged in more!

We continued on with our long walk and headed to St Ibbs church, a beautiful little chapel built in the 13th century, that overlooks the sea across to Denmark. So many of the homes had small bowls of water out in their front yards for thirsty dogs - Saga was very pleased! We had lunch at the very cosy Pumpans Cafe, the tastiest pizza in a charming garden setting. An afternoon icecream from Hvens Glassfabrik to round out the day and then we were heading back onto the ferry to make the trip home again! The perfect day trip from Malmo and the most wonderful start to a gorgeous Swedish summer!
