Rainbow Spotting: Hong Kong Choi Hung Estate

hongkong_rainbowestate_mckeanstudio3.jpg

Rainbow anything en masse is always a visual delight, and the Choi Hung Estate in Hong Kong is no exception. As one of the oldest public housing estates in Hong Kong (completed in the early 1960s) , it was also the largest at the time, housing 43,000 people. This is a real spectacle to see, and well worth the subway hike it takes to get to the estate from central Hong Kong. A subway to Choi Hung station (which is also rainbow themed, as Choi Hung is the Cantonese translation to ‘rainbow’; cute!) and a short walk around some estate buildings to find the Choi Hung estate. If you’re hoping to visit with minimal people around, try early in the day, but keep in mind that the estate is where tens of thousands of people call home.
